Delaware AG Biden Seeks Funding Support for Stewards

Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden asked the legislature’s budget-writing committee today to approve funding for training 10,000 adults to recognize the signs of child abuse and report it to authorities.  Biden made his request for $60,000 for the Stewards of Children program during the Department of Justice’s annual Joint Finance Committee hearing.   “It is not a child’s job to protect him or herself from abuse, that is our job as adults,” Biden said.  “When 90 percent of abused kids are victimized by someone they …

Recent AP article highlights the D2L/YMCA community prevention efforts

The Associated Press published an article over the weekend about the child protection efforts by national youth serving organizations including the YMCA.  The article specifically mentions the work local YMCAs are doing to increase awareness and educate adults in the community. Congratulations to the Merrimack Valley YMCA!

Merrimack Valley YMCA has already trained 413 individual’s in 2012 and they have 2 more trainings to go this month!  What a way to start the new year!  They have also just received a $4,000 donation from their local Rotary Club to support their Darkness to Light initiative!  This will go a long way in their efforts to train all of the Methuen Public Schools and the Methuen Fire Department. Partnering in Prevention Steering Committee

On December 8th and 9th YMCA CEOs, Darkness to Light, and The Redwoods Group Foundation came together to discuss child sexual abuse prevention. New Jersey YMCA State Alliance takes a bold stand against child sexual abuse

Last Friday, September 23, 2011 the New Jersey YMCA State Alliance came together to discuss child protection. This month we finalized a dramatic leap forward in our mission in the form of partnership with a group of large YMCA’s up and down the eastern seaboard. As an organization this means we are moving out of start-up phase and into a true large-scale operating phase. Hockomock YMCA to raise awareness about CSA by using D2L programs

Across the country YMCA’s and D2L are working together to help prevent child sexual abuse.  One of these Y’s is the Hockomock YMCA in MA. They are working with their 5 member communities to bring awareness and offer Stewards of Children trainings. They have had tremendous support from their community as they work towards training 5% of their adult population. Great example of media doing it right
